How did National Doughnut Day Originate?
Surprisingly, National Doughnut Day goes all the way back to 1938. Inspired by “Doughnut Girls” who served doughnuts to soldiers on the front lines during World War One, the first National Doughnut Day was a fundraiser to aid those who were suffering through the Great Depression. Now, money from doughnuts that are bought on the first Friday in June has been dedicated to good causes, like the Salvation Army.
