Discover The Rich History Of Honda

No one made history staying within the confines of how society viewed the world. It is safe to say that Honda has established its name in the history books as a reliable and innovative manufacturer, creating incredible vehicles that are safe and thrilling to drive on the road. Discover the rich history of Honda and witness firsthand how Barbour Hendrick Honda carries on that tradition of excellence with its offer of exceptional model options.

It Started with a Dream

You could say that the Honda brand all began with a dream. This dream came from Soichiro Honda, one of the co-founders of Honda Motor Co., Ltd., along with Takeo Fujisawa. Before sedans and SUVs made up the Honda lineup, the auto manufacturer was engineering motorcycles styled as the “Dream” D-type motorcycle as early as 1949. A decade later, Honda established its first overseas division, American Honda Motor Co., on US soil. Recognizing early the importance of the future, Honda took steps to create the National Youth Project Using Minibikes, which is a program that assists underprivileged preteens and teens.

Taking on the World by Caring for It

The automotive brand continued to take great strides in the auto industry. Soichiro Honda, however, never wanted those innovative steps to affect our natural world. As Honda said himself, “What will happen to our streams, lakes, and rivers if all that exhaust gas mixed with oil gets pumped into the water? I don’t care if everyone else is making two strokes; Honda has to make four strokes.” The heart of Soichiro Honda was seen in the work Honda’s engineers created along the way. This includes the first-ever fuel-efficient 4-stroke outboard engine for marine vessels in 1973 or the CVCC engine in 1974, which was a part of the Blue Skies for Our Children initiative. Of course, Honda drivers can see how the Honda brand has continued this green initiative by creating more fuel-efficient engines and electric vehicles.

Committed to the Future of Mobility

Honda has taken several innovative steps on and off the road. The company established the American Honda Foundation and the production of lawnmowers in 1984. Honda is also committed to making your journey behind the wheel smooth, safe, and sensational. Honda created its luxury brand, Acura, in 1986. In 1999, Honda created the first hybrid model driven in North America, the Insight. Honda continues to create history with the FCX Clarity in 2008, the first fuel cell vehicle in the world that can comfortably accommodate four people.

Over the years, Honda has won multiple awards. These include the North American Car of the Year for the 2016 Honda Civic and the 2018 Accord as well as the 2017 North America Truck of the Year for the Ridgeline. Additionally, through the Blue Skies for Our Children program, Honda has lowered emissions by 30 percent as of 2020.
